Who We Are
The Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed group began in November
2004. It is open to anyone who is interested or cares about Marsh
Creek, Sand Creek, Deer Creek or any other creek in the surrounding
watershed. It currently includes residents from Brentwood, Oakley,
Byron, Knightsen, Walnut creek, Discovery Bay and Antioch.
Our Interests
We are a group of local people who:
Care about the creeks in the Marsh Creek Watershed
Enjoy learning about our watershed
Are involved in protecting and restoring the watershed.
The Friends of Marsh Creek
Watershed (FOMCW) is concerned
with raising awareness in the local
community about the value of Marsh
Creek and its watershed. FOMCW
engages in a number of activities
aimed at educating local residents
about  Marsh Creek and monitoring the
quality of the watershed habitat.

FOMCW helps to organize and
participates in community creek
clean-ups in Oakley and Brentwood.
FOMCW takes part in county-wide
programs for Aquatic
Macroinvertebrate Monitoring  and
GPS Monitoring.  Salmon Monitoring is
conducted along the Marsh Creek trail
every fall to identify and count
spawning salmon.

FOMCW supports restoration of the
creek corridor to a more natural state.
FOMCW has worked with city planners
and developers to encourage creek
protection in their planning process.
The Friends of Marsh Creek
Watershed conducts Native Planting
Projects along Marsh Creek as part of
this restoration effort.

FOMCW also hosts educational slide
shows about Marsh Creek Wildlife and
other topics.  In addition, FOMCW
organizes walks and hikes to introduce
local people to the natural history of
the Marsh  Creek Watershed.
