March 3rd Update:

Disney and Hands On Network have announced that they have now given out 600,000
tickets. They announced that opportunities will be very limited now and that as soon as
they have 1 million tickets reserved for volunteers the program will end.  There is
currently opportunities to help build Burrowing Owl burrows this coming Sunday
March 7th.  We may add a few more opportunities for Earth Day if the site allows us. If
you are on our mail list you will get a notification email that we have added more
opportunities. To be on our mail list email volunteer@fomcw.org
.

February 23rd Update:
EARTH Day Events have been posted and should appear as an opportunity on the
Hands On Network within the next 24 hours (probably this afternoon).  We will have
opportunities in both Oakley and Brentwood.  You must be registered for the events
through the Disney Give A Day Get A Day program to earn your ticket to a Disney park.

Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed is happy to announce the
final results of our successful Martin Luther King Day of
Service project.

•We had 12 sites in partnership with the Cities of Oakley and
Brentwood, Oakley Unified School District, East Bay Regional
Park District and Save Mount Diablo.
•We had a total of 443 volunteers between all 12 sites.
•There were 8 sites in Oakley- 3 OUSD campuses and
surrounding neighborhoods, 1 at EBRPD Big Break Shoreline
Regional Park site and 4 city parks and surrounding
neighborhoods. A total of 256 volunteers came out to pick up 3
tons of trash and spread 12 cubic yards of mulch.
•There were 3 sites in Brentwood- 1 park site and 2 native
garden sites. A total of 157 volunteers came out to spread
aproximately 35 cubic yards of mulch, pick weeds from about
2000 linear feet of native gardens and plant nearly 500 native
grasses in those gardens.
•Most of the volunteers signed up to volunteer through the
Disney Give A Day Get A Day Program. 463 people signed up on
the site and on that very rainy soggy day we had only 33 people
"no show".
•Much of the site supervision was done by volunteers from the
cities, OUSD and REI who were able to participate in the Disney
program as well. The folks at Terracare (formerly ACC Landscape)
helped supervise and provide us with equipment and tools for all
three Brentwood sites.  All support volunteers were very
supportive and enthusiastic on that very soggy day!
•As impressive as all these numbers are we must remember that
the number of volunteers we got for this community service event
was competitive or surpassed those community service events in
communities with much bigger populations!

Across the board everyone said our volunteers were enthusiastic
and hardworking -despite the weather! There were many
volunteers that came from out of the area that had to drive more
than an hour to get to the project sites.

Thank you for all YOUR hardwork and thank you for giving
FOMCW this opportunity to help our community!
